Lord Of The Rings – T.V.:
Lord Of The Rings by JRR Tolkien:
Created into a three part film series, followed by a three part film, The Hobbit, Peter Jackson magnificently built a dream series out of an impossible overly magnificently, unwieldy, wealth of description through his written fantasy world of Middle-earth.
A dedicated writer JRR Tolkien created the history, and languages of an entirely imaginary race of beings . . . the visionary of his mythical world over many years.
Oxford was his place to be, being an Oxford Don, and being among such eminent company through the 'Inklings' a group of like-mined fellows, including CS Lewis, author of The Chronicle Of Narnia series.
Amazon, has stepped into this world by buying the Tolkien estate rights $250 million for the T.V. With a further $250 million budget for the first two seasons.
The start of the Amazon show is delving 2000 year back into the history of Middle-earth, during the 'second Age' of which Tolkien has extensive well documented material available
A new film on the life of JRR Tolkien is made.
In the heady days of Peter Jackson, back in the 2000's the Tolkien estate had not realised the power of the author's words; and for Peter Jackson, he held a passion for these works, bringing a maverick approach in the 'Independent Film' making. - Then followed the Harry Potter series.
Working with the backing of New Line Cinema, Jackson had a budget of $281 for the entire Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Peter was able through his enthusiasm to enhance these works with true 'soul energy', one that will be virtually impossible to repeat.
Mega – Franchises:
With high finance and the rise of the mega – franchises, brought tighter studio control which inevitably lack 'soul energy'.
Working through these franchises is not easy; making lots of money versus artificially satisfying. Make or break - this will need to be a monstrous 'hit' with the huge amount of Amazon spending.
The question we shall be waiting for is; if this fails, what then? Is it the ending of this era of mega - franchises. If Amazon succeeds is this a new monster for Hollywood?
Just a final note for today:
Throughout my own personal journey, JRR Tolkien has played a part in my life from 1971 onwards. He has brought spiritual inspiration and encouragement to me in my own writing for many-a-year, bringing his presence in a mutual sharing of our fantasy stories, and even unfolding a 'Hobbit' like venture through my channelling, which I am looking forward to share with you.
Throughout Peter Jackson's involvement with the great man, I can feel Tolkien has assisted in bring his 'soul' through Peter's hands. Maybe a director in his own right?
